I've donated whole blood here a number of times and the experience varies. Generally they are nice and reasonably efficient but once, about a year ago, I checked in and took a seat right in the front and waited... and waited. It wasn't busy. After about 30 minutes somebody noticed me or I asked someone and they said they'd get somebody. But nobody came and got me. I think it was another 45 minutes before I was called... They said they didn't realize I was waiting! Yesterday I had an appointment to donate platelets ... Had been a little reluctant to do so because it takes longer and wasn't sure how comfortable I was with the procedure. But Red Cross kept calling me to donate and sending reminders and the one time I actually picked up the phone he suggested I consider platelets. And then when I finally went to schedule an appointment, they only had openings for platelet donation so I went ahead and made an appointment. I arrived on time, psyched up and ready for a long process, but waited an hour before I was called. There were a lot of people in the waiting area/snack area, although reasonably spaced apart, and all were waiting. I realize they seemed to be short staffed but when I was finally called it would have been nice for someone to just say sorry for the wait or give an explanation, which they didn't. I ended up just donating whole blood, not platelets, because my veins were too small or something. I don't understand why they schedule that many people if they can can't handle it.

I've been here twice now to donate blood, once in November 2020 and another time January 2021. Both times have been fantastic, thanks to the employees here. It was my first time donating blood and I was pretty nervous. The person at the front desk kept coming to check on me to make sure I was doing okay and stayed with me while I was giving blood. He made me so comfortable and really helped ease my anxiety about the process. My second time, I told the phlebotomist that I got queasy around needles and blood and he stayed with me and talked the whole time. Both times, there was a bit of a wait even after I made an appointment, but not more than 10-15 minutes. An employee said that they've seen a huge increase in the volume of people to come in, which may explain the short wait. Customer service here is wonderful - can't wait to donate again!

I hate to do this but I have to share. Went to donate blood today. After a 25 min wait I'm called back to do intake paperwork in a very small room (maybe 6 x 8 feet?), which isn't very COVID safe. Then I'm told to remove my mask for a temp check. I objected and asked for a temporal scan, but was told the oral thermometer was required. Well, I complained to the Red Cross and they are following up to improve on-site safety. Please donate, but don't be unsafe in the process. Kudos to ARC national for quick follow-up, but Parklawn onsite team needs significant coaching.

The staff is incredibly polite. ️️ These procedures take time but the staff is constantly checking on you and explaining why. Totally recommend to come make your blood or plasma donation on this location (and not the one in Columbia!! )

Easily accessible and friendly staff who seem to know what they're doing, good at placing needles. Incredibly slow in terms of processing patients and preparing for platelet donation.
