What a unique and wonderful experience! First and foremost, Kim and Patricia Chesser are exquisite hosts. Folks, this is a working ranch and yet they open their home and hearth to visitors from around the world. Patricia "The Boss" prepares wonderful, family style meals with a huge Lazy Susan at their supper table while Kim politely (and humorously!) takes the guests ranching and riding. Accommodations are clean and comfortable (we stayed in the Bunkhouse) and we enjoyed the roaring fireplace in the evening.

Very secluded and quite. Perfect place to get away from it all and disconnect.

If you want a taste of the real west this is the place! I can't say enough good things about the 'Regulator Ride'. Food horses and company were wonderful. Our rides took us over places most guides would never let you ride. Relaxed and laid back atmosphere.

I was overwhelmed with the city, the masses, traffic, the concrete jungle, and being plugged in. If you want to get away from it all, stay at the Chessers' working ranch. We enjoyed our quiet, restful and peaceful stay with a 360 degree view of the horizon. Mr. Kim Chesser, the owner himself, took us horse back riding. We watched birds, hiked, read, and pet ranch horses and chose not to visit Lincoln and Rosewell for day trips. Thank you again.

Burnt Wells is great family fun, trailhorse riding ranch. The family owned business is very friendly and the horses are gentle and calm and know the trail. The scenery is amazing and picturesque. A wonderful time, thank you Kim, Ty and Tegan :)

My wife and I, along with our three sons aged 9-15, spent five days on the Burnt Well Guest Ranch in early April 2018. Kim and Patricia Chesser had asked before we arrived what kind of experience we would like to have, which they do for all their guests. They tailored our stay perfectly -- we had such a wonderful family experience. We went for 1-3 hour rides twice per day, sometimes moving or checking on the cattle, sometimes just exploring the surprisingly rich fauna and flora of the ranch. My kids had never ridden before, but the horses were so well trained that they had no difficulty, even riding up and down slopes and over rough ground. The boys absolutely loved it and gained great confidence. The Chesser's son, Tye, gave roping lessons, and we were able to actively contribute to the branding of some of the calves. The bunk-house accommodation is really comfortable and spacious, with a kitchen, pool-table and a hot tub to relax in after a day on the horses. Patricia put on a fabulous spread of food every day as well. Gazing at the New Mexico night sky around the campfire while Patricia played the fiddle was magical. The week simply could not have gone any better. One word to the wise though: if you haven't done much riding and you ask the Chessers to include a lot of riding as part of your stay (as we did), bring padded bike shorts. They really saved our butts! The Burnt Well Ranch and Kim Chesser are the real deal. If you are looking for an experience that will give you honest-to-goodness insight into what Western ranch work, history, and life are truly like, it's hard to imagine a better place to go.

Best.Trip.Ever. I'm sure there are other words to describe a vacation at Burnt Well Guest Ranch, but these three sum it up quite nicely. You will not go wrong if you are looking for a true ranch experience. We made great friends, had amazing meals, and checked an item off my bucket list...and added an item...I will be returning!

It was tough, but why else would you go on a cattle drive??? As an equestrian of 43 years I wanted to RIDE. Kim assigned me a GREAT horse, very compatible ( yes, I now want to buy him) and we worked COWS... and red bull ( not the drink, the real thing!). Food, company, accommodations all good, but the horses... Truth? I learned all of the horses' names well before the humans. Truly great, real, non commercial people and did I mention the horses??
