The first issue about this newspaper is, it has extremely poor delivery service and virtually no customer service. All customer service calls are referred to customer service in the Philippines. There is no follow-through, and no change locally. Whenever it rains, our newspaper is wet and unusable. If we call to complain, we can get I replacement the next day. Not very useful. Both we and our neighbors have complained and still get wet newspapers. We have been unable to reach anybody locally. Over the years, the newspaper has continued to shrink in size, while the cost of subscription has gone up. Likewise the cost for announcements, obituaries etcetera has gone up dramatically. I would really like to be able to support this newspaper. But the customer service in particular makes that really difficult.

I have a subscription that I plan to cancel. The delivery of the paper is unpredictable, and I never know if I'm going to get the paper or not. When you call to try to get the issue resolved, there is just a recording and nothing offered other than a credit on the account. Why bother having a subscription when the paper isn't delivered ? There are lots of other sources for news, many of them free and less hassle.

Elderly friend has taken the Statesman for years. Her delivery service has gotten spotty, and when she's tried to reach out to the paper she has had no luck getting her issue resolved (papers delivered daily, and refunds for those that haven't shown up). She's ready to cancel her scrip.

We would give no star if possible. Have been a customer since 1980. We have continuously received our daily paper in our lawn for quite sometime and finally decided to call them to ask that they stop doing that..... What a joke that has been. With the first call to customer service we told them we’d call everyday still it stopped. We have a huge/wide driveway and requested them to just to place on driveway. Very easy. But they purposely continue to place in lawn. So far 12-15 calls to customer service and last 3 calls we also asked for area manager to please call us and hasn’t happened either. Asked our neighbors, some have quit the paper due to poor placement of their papers too. They called asking for change of placement and nothing changed for them either. Statesman Journal, Is there a trick to get deliverer to quit putting in yard?

Loyal customer for 40 years even as the paper’s content continued to diminish and become irrelevant. Yes, the internet is formidable competition but many people still love to read a paper copy of the news. The SJ has a huge opportunity to report local news. My god we live in the state capital in a metro area of over 400,000 people. Salem has two nearby DI universities and a host of small universities and colleges. There are over 25 high schools in the readership area. We have a school district with over 40,000 students. The one lonely sports’ reporter has been reduced to writing what the scores are with no context. Instead of reporting local news people want to read, the SJ follows the Gannett far left, woke, culture shoving an unending stream of social justice tripe down the readership’s throat. I cancelled my subscription, the Gannett call center is in Louisville, KY (actually across the Ohio River in Indiana), after they doubled the home delivery rate to over 400 a year. The best thing Gannett could do for Salem is to sell out to a smaller regional operator who is community minded. Salem’s progressive elected officials should encourage it. Corporate news is unpalatable. It must be embarrassing for staff to work for this outfit that has essentially done a mafia-like bust out of local assets selling off everything of value. Hey Gannett - if you can’t make it here, you can’t make it anywhere.
