My initial contact with Russ was very fulfilling. He came across as a very upfront and knowledgeable individual. I will be retaining him as an attorney and I don't think I'll be disappointed.

He knows his job for sure !!! Tells the truth as it is. Do not try to lure money from you. I don’t understand why such bad reviews? He helped me! I am very grateful to him! One of the few lawyers who can really help even by phone! Just call him and you will see that bad reviews are just a misunderstanding !!!
I'm at a loss for words at the moment. The previous google review titled "The Truth" is nothing but the truth. The Avvo reviews posted online for Russ are highly suspect because, like the other reviewer, what I have encountered first hand with Russ has been nothing but unprofessional and unacceptable. I have continued using his counsel because of my current financial situation and he agreed to see my criminal case through to the end without further payment. If I could go back in time and retain any other lawyer in the Salt Lake valley I would. He does not respond to text messages nor phone calls and left voicemails once he has gotten your money. He does not stay on top of your case and uphold his responsibilities as a legal defender. It is up to you to notify him when your scheduled court dates are and the location. He has shown up late to a number of my court appearances, one of which he sent a partner to late with no prior communication. With Russ as your attorney you will be left with questions and concerns regarding your case and when you finally see him in person you will be left wondering if he has your best interests at heart. I feel Russ has failed me and at the end of the day he genuinely could care less. Consider representing yourself in court before retaining Russ Pietryga.
REAL REVIEW of actual case. Not sure why there are so many good reviews for this guy on Avvo to be honest, wonder if some are fake.. I tried to post a negative review there and it blocked it. I am sure the lawyers pay to be there and Avvo would not want a bad review for their paying clients. I know he does child cases and I am only speaking of my criminal defense case. I actually live here in Salt lake city and he represented me in a criminal defense case. First off his bedside manner if you will is pretty sleazy. He is a VERY smooth talker and makes you think he is the absolute BEST and ONLY lawyer that can defend you and get you the right defense. He WILL NOT LISTEN to your questions or really address any concerns you have with a straight answer. I asked him some questions that were concerning me about my case several times and each time he blew it off. He rarely picks up the phone (even days before your court date) and NEVER returned my phone calls, he only picked up after days of calling him and just blows it off like “o yeah busy in court” if you are supposed to be a professional act like one instead of a dodgy lawyer. He did not keep us up to date on anything to do with our case, I had to call the courts to see what was going on for Christ sake.. We discussed what was to be done in court in our consult and everything sounded fine, come our court date we got nothing we spoke of prior to and was even a worse sentence than what was expected. Some of the proceedings we had to ask the court clerks what to do. He REALLY dropped the ball and left me feeling taken not to mention a horrible outcome and on my record forever. I think I would have been better off defending myself because I got a pretty rough sentence especially for my first offense ever. Plain and simple Russell Pietryga is a horrible lawyer that only wants money and does not care what happens to you. Don’t let his car used salesmen smooth talking fool you, come court day he does not care!
Russ is truly a knowledgeable lawyer. Hire him for his knowledge and connections in the community.
