Wayne The Sane

I am normally suspicious of anyone who will hand my wife any weapon, simply on principal, since I have a generous life insurance policy. When I found out she was going to Davenriche regularly to train I was terrified, as you can imagine. Since then, though, I have visited the school with her many times and found the staff friendly, courteous, and inviting, a bit like a well armed koala's. I have even taken a class on sharpening and "cutting" which has given me the comfort of knowing I would have a whelk's chance in a supernova of stopping my wife were she to need the aforesaid insurance money. I have also come to understand that these modern day Ewoks are the perfect place for her to train since they know how to fight and have a good time. They are cute and cuddly and vicious when roused. They also trained her not to kill your husband for the insurance money. I might be biased but this is a great school.

Simply wonderful! Steaphen Fick, the maestro and head of the school, is exceptionally skilled in the medieval and Renaissance fencing that forms the bulk of the school's classes. He works to share his knowledge in a way that's individualized and digestible for each student. I've found DEMAS to be a welcoming and friendly place for students of all backgrounds and abilities who are interested in historical martial arts.

The instructors here really care about their students and it shows. Everyone is pretty nice and helpful and help make DEMAS a welcoming place. They also set learning at a fair pace and make sure that you understand your fundamentals before introducing new content, which is good and something that's hard to get considering the amount of attention needed on an individual basis to do so.

Davenriche European Martial Artes School (DEMAS) is a veritable treasure trove of all Medieval and Rennaissance martial arts. The staff here are respectful and highly knowledgeable, and work hard to help their students gain functional mastery over the various swords and hand to hand styles. It is an environment where questions are welcomed, and fundamental understanding is stressed rather than rote memorizarion of form. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn the European sword.

Amazing place, if I lived in Santa Clara I would attend every week. Great instruction, great facility, lots of swords to use, everyone's very helpful. Awesome place to learn longsword fighting. As well as other weapons used in historical European martial arts.

Excellent school, all the instructors are very welcoming and knowledgeable. As a beginner I felt that they really care about teaching and getting new people up to speed, while perfecting the skills of longtime returning students. If you think swords and a variety of other martial art practices are cool, this is an excellent school to go.
