The Sawmill Community Land Trust is a great housing option for low income. come folks who want to be homeowners! They offer Townhome style and detached homes in a walkable community just north of Old Town in Albuquerque. They also offer artist loft spaces and senior housing rentals for over 55 set. All three styles of housing have waiting lists (so it’s a good thing to look into way in advance of when you actually need it...) but occasionally there’s a resale of one of the owner occupied units and you can get into these homes (if you income qualify) for less than 150,000! SCLT Is a unique and progressive community that is working to build and keep affordable housing downtown for artists, seniors, and lower income folks who have a desire to be home Homeowners. Kudo’s to SCLT!
I've been here since the community opened, several years. It was great at first, however, with the new management and new hostile maintenance man it has really gone down hill. It use to be a GREEN environment, the apartments when new where introduced as GREEN, however, it's not non-smoking and they do several things to the grounds and to your apartment that are not GREEN. The place drew artists and people with their own businesses from all over, however, it's mostly just people that seem to have no care for community and other people now.
I have a friend who lives back in here it's a really beautiful tucked-away neighborhood I love it
