One of many ferry services on Long Island, the Sayville Ferry offers a clean and quaint location, reliable service and reasonable prices.. I recently took a trip to Fire Island with the family and the experience was over all pretty pleasant. The staff here was friendly and helpful.. The signs were easy to read and understand.. It was a little crowded but that’s a given when you’re traveling during peak summer season.. The ferry arrived and left on time.. There is a small bar with a limited selection of drinks to enjoy while you wait.. If you’re hungry there is also a dockside restaurant.. I can’t comment on the quality of their food or service because we didn’t eat there, but the location is pretty charming.. They have a huge amount of parking, spread out among several lots, and the prices for parking seemed reasonable.. All in all this ferry service is a good one if you’re headed to Fire Island!!

When you need to get to Fire Island, take the ferry. It's fast, clean and easy. Way less expensive than owning a boat...

Pros: it's a short ride (only about 20 minutes to the pines or cherry grove), plenty of seating (I've never been turned away), you're able to sit on the top deck to get some sun or the lower deck if you prefer some shade, the website is always updated on with the most current information (including ferry schedules and pricing), it probably won't sink and will get you somewhere safely... Cons: very expensive (16 PER DAY to park on the weekends, plus an 18 round trip ticket--if you're planning to stay overnight, it may be worth it to get dropped off at the ferry), multiple ferries go out at the same time and no signs are posted so you'll likely catch the wrong ferry (LOTS of people do this so traveler beware: it's just over a mile walk between the pines and cherry grove--the walk is part boardwalk, part swamp, part sand trail), they don't wipe down the seats after it rains so be prepared to sit in a puddle, people are always rushing to get on and off (feels more like getting on or off a city subway than a beach ferry so be sure to have your ticket ready or your credit card ready to purchase your ticket at the window--but I can't promise people won't be annoyed or bump into you if have to stop or slow down for any reason!)

I have been going over for 30 years between the Haven and the Grove. Through this pandemic I just want to give a huge shout out to Ken Stein and his crew! The deckhands and captains have been so on top of passengers keeping their masks on for the whole ride!! Kudos to all of you!! ️
