DO NOT EVER, AND I MEAN EVER, rent from Routes Car Rental in Chicago. They are deceptive and rude. You are not notified at any time that you need to shuttle to the rental car center, and then call to get another shuttle to their location. The person I called was completely annoyed and took 40 minutes to come pick us up at 10:30 pm. The person at the counter was equally as rude. You are told when you arrive you must present a copy of your insurance card or you will have to buy their insurance. Who carries their insurance card with them? I had to call someone at home and get them to take a photo of my insurance ID card. You are never told at any time or in any paperwork that you need that at check in. Once the car was returned, the final person to deal with was the absolute worst of everyone. Claims I dented the car....which I absolutely did not. She inspected the car in a total of 20 seconds....and never even looked at the history of the car before rudely telling me that I caused the dent. I disputed this and had to fill out an incident report for an incident that never happened. After arriving home, we never heard from them again until they charged my credit card 1400 to apparently repair a dent. No notice. No email or phone call stating they have some sort of estimate. No authorization from us to charge the card. It is ridiculous. NEVER NEVER AGAIN. As I read other reviews, it appears this is standard practice for them. They bait you with a good rate and then they scam you at the end. The employees are unbelievably rude. Please listen to my warning and find another rental car company to use. If I could give them negative stars, I would.

I had a very bad experience today with this company and I don’t recommend them to anyone. Our business with them started with the rental car pick up. They advertise that they are onsite, but you end up having to take 2 shuttles and it took us a total of 45 minutes to get there. We wanted to rent a Dodge Durango, which we payed for online. They told us they didn’t have anymore Dodge Durango’s, so they have us a 10 year old mini van. We asked for different car but they said they couldn’t. The car was not clean and had scratches all over it. This was not even the worse part. When we started the car, there was only 1/8 of a tank left. This is the only company I have ever seen to have a policy like this. They also have a crazy toll system. When ever you go through a toll you have to write it down. I do not recommend them. Any other rental car company is better.

We booked a car for our trip to Wisconsin Dells, we fly from Florida to Chicago- O Hara airport and let me tell you that we had the BEST EXPERIENCE with Routes Car Rental! From the moment we lended in Chicago everything went super smooth. Our shuttle to rental car center was there in a minutes and their shuttle picked up us right away and brought us to the Routes Car Rental in minutes also. We checked in and got our vehicle in less than 10 minutes. Super thankful to drivers and customer service at the car rental place. Definitely will recommend this place!

This was by far the worst car rental service I have ever experienced in my entire life! Nowhere on the website did it say that after you booked your reservation would they try to charge you additional charges. I arrived with my partner and 3 small children only to find out that not only did they try to run my credit card without my permission they didn’t even make me aware that I was going to be added additional expenses. The person representing the company was extremely rude and had zero customer service skills. My children were tired and hungry as we’ve been traveling all day and they took forever only to tell me I couldn’t get the car because they refused to let me use my debit card. They left me and my family basically stranded and forced to rent a room for the night adding additional expenses that were also not planned. What a great start to a vacation! NOT!!!! Afterwards they refused to give me my refund for the reservation which I did not get the car. I have been disputing this since October and they still refuse to pay for their miscommunication. This is by far the worst car rental experience I have ever encountered and I wouldn’t recommend this company to my worst enemy! They are horrible!!!!!

Doesn’t look like the best place compared to all the big car rental chains, but I will say this was probably the best vehicle I’ve ever rented. I travel a lot for business. However this time was for vacation. The wait time is long. Shuttle took a while to pick you up from airport rental area and take you to their actual location. But it was made up by them putting me in a brand new Jeep Wrangler. Literally only had 15 miles on it. It was a great vehicle. When I returned the young gentleman that runs the shuttle help me check out and also made sure I was on the shuttle because we had to get to the airport to catch our flight. Very nice guy!
