Sebring Custom Tanning does an amazing job on alligator skins. The standard colors generally take 8-10 months. You will not be disappointed. Family owned and operated, The Travers are awesome to deal with.
They've done 3 cow hides for me. All 3 were great, and the price can't be beat. They are busy so don't expect a fast turn around, but they tell you that up front so no surprise.
Hide were done perfect, took a little longer than expected but, worth the wait. Nicest people in Florida to deal with.
I would not recommend them if: 1. you want to pay 200.00 on a deer hide tanning. 2. you like shoddy work with slippage of hair 3. enjoy amateur's doing your hides (4) want yours more likely someone's else hides back in 6 weeks. I would recommend them if: 1. you want excellent work and hides that don't slip after 25 years , I have 7 hides still looking good tanned in 1995,96,97. 2. Want people to go "WOW! would you sell me just one of those? and 3. you want YOUR Hides not someone else's back. Tanning raw hides is a tedious nasty job - Sebring your top notch thanks for having down to earth fees and for doing killer work! High 5 ! p.s. do what they tell you, salt heavy don't skimp and ship them hides out right away Sebring will do the rest.
Sebring Tanning does great work! My two brown alligator hides turned out beautifully, however, they took much longer than anticipated. I was told at the beginning that the process would take 5-6 months, but my hides took 13 months. This was not much of an issue because I wasn't in a rush. The problem was that when I shipped my hides there, I never got a notification that they received my hides. I had to call a few times, and finally got a confirmation two months later. I just wanted to make sure that my hides hadn't gotten lost in the mail. All in all, good experience with Sebring Tanning, and I will use again. Just be prepared for a long wait time and delayed confirmation that they have received your hides.
My son's first year of serious trapping was last winter. We sent the furs in early spring and just received them (beginning of winter). The best hides were in the best condition. A couple of hides not so good when sent in and came out as expected, not so good. The folks as Sebring did their best! The best hides came back amazing! A lot is on the trapper/skinner as it always will be. I'm 47 and will finally get the beaver hat I've always wanted. They did a great job on a large male possum (thin skinned). He will become a lightweight winter hat or fur collar as well. We shopped around a lot before trusting Sebring with dozens of hours of trapping, skinning and scraping. For the price, I'm not sure how they can be beat! The above was submitted two years ago. My son has since finished grad school and we found bags in the bottom of our deep freezer. More skins! We sent them in last spring during a cold snap and got them back a month ago. As others have said don't be in a hurry, but you get your skins and they are done well. They need to update their website as prices increased 5 per hide for the types I sent in. Again I sent in a couple of large possum and they came out beautifully. I am finishing my first raccoon hat as practice for the 50 lb beaver pelt. If I ever get a large deer again, I will try sending it in. They were so nice when I called for final payment and shipment info. If you're searching for a place to send your hides, no need to search further.
Not good any time it takes a year to get your hide deer hide back
