I needed some barn wood for a DIY project up at the cabin. First, I would like to say that Kevin and his team provided excellent service. Admittedly, I'm not very gifted in projects like this and Kevin took the time to guide me through each step. Secondly, I compared Shafer's price to several other places and found their product to be competitively priced. Lastly, the quality of the wood is exceptional. Thank you Kevin for making my project at the cabin a success! I will be back for "phase II".

I needed some weathered gray barn boards for a diy kitchen island. After several phone calls to Mr. Shafer I found opportunity to travel (a 2 hour drive) and meet him at his shop. When I told him I wanted to do a light stain on the boards to match my color scheme, he was quick to point out why I would NOT want to do that and showed me an example of what could be the undesired result. Feeling defeated, I was thinking of abandoning my project. We got to talking and I told him I needed weathered, kiln dried boards that were a very light denim blue. Impossible right? I mean who paints a barn blue? Lo and behold it turned out he had boards in the loft at his workshop that were exactly the tone I was imagining for the project. He took the time to sort through them with me, calculate board feet need and cut them to the length I needed. He even shrink wrapped them in bundles. All this at a great price. In short he saved my project and I left with quite an education on reclaimed wood. Well worth the drive! I highly recommend and will return for future projects.
