I've been practicing at Shakti Vinyasa Yoga Seattle for almost month now and I'm hooked. The staff is great and so are the classes. It would be nice not to have to pay for a mat and a mat towel, but nothing is perfect.

Shakti Ballard has been my home base studio I think going on 8 or more years. I have always found it inviting and welcoming through out the years. I have enjoyed many amazing workshops at both locations over the years from the shakti teachers to other incredible teaching like Bryan Kest and Anna Forrest. I have been practicing for over 20 years and I continue to learn and challenge myself with each class I've taken at Shakti. Although I do have my favorite teachers and truly enjoy their classes, the one that always stands out and the one I always seek out, is Lisa Black's class. Her raw and genuine authenticity is interwoven in her guidance through out her classes. The way she speaks and conveys her message is powerful and so humbling at times. Sadly in studio classes are suspended as we as a community deal with this pandemic. However the good news is there are plenty on online classes to take. Thank you Lisa, and the rest of the Shakti community for being part of my yoga community.
I’ve never done yoga before, so I’ve no comparisons. I like this place. They learned my name, they correct my form, they help me learn. Yoga is hard, athletic and fun. It’s a great way to work off the winter blues. Thank you.
I've been attending classes here for more than 10 years. Shakti offers a style that is at once athletic and meditative. For someone who just wants a workout, you'll get plenty of exercise. For those who are interested in the spiritual aspects of yoga, there is plenty to learn here. However, there is a balance between the two so there is something for everyone. It's not cheap and the quality does vary between instructors so try several out before you make up your mind about whether or not this studio should be called home.
I went for a morning meditation. The studio is very pretty and it looks like a nice, high end yoga spot. The meditation was after a yoga class and I suspect most people in attendance came from the class. The instructor spoke the entire time which isn't necessarily my style, but that's okay. I can tune it out. However at the end they had us stand in our circle, turn to the side (facing the back of the person next to us), and they said to "give your neighbors some love." I was between two strange, sweaty men and suddenly one was massaging me and I was supposed to massage the (shirtless) one in front of me. Then we were supposed to go in the other direction. I should have stepped out of the circle, but I didnt realize what was happening and froze. If they want to have massage circles, they need to let people know ahead of time so that they can opt out. I did not consent to two strange men rubbing my shoulders and it was not relaxing to say the least. I can't speak to their yoga classes, but saw some reviews bring up similar situations with lack of awareness to consent. Instructors should know by now to let people opt out of being touched by strangers in classes, including by the instructors themselves.
Shakti yoga is a great experience! What sets it apart is the quality of instruction. I started at the Ballard location in January and have felt totally supported and encouraged by the teaching staff. There is a deep knowledge of the poses, what is correct and what is not; but more than that there is an enthusiasm and encouragement that is uplifting and feels great to be around. Other students also say that while there are lots of other places to go, but no one else has the consistent high quality instruction. A friend says, “When you’re doing a bit of self-care—it’s great to know the instructor is caring for you as well.” The studio is also clean and pleasant. (It doesn’t smell like a gym). There are nice changing rooms, a shower, clean bathrooms. It is well run and maintained. The other students are polite and professional. There is a nice sense of community and support. Finally and most importantly, it’s a great workout. I leave each time knowing and feeling I have worked out hard. My body feels tired and calm and afterwards I sit still rather than fidget. At night I sleep great and wake with better energy. This winter I did not suffer the SAD that normally affects me as a Seattleite. I also feel the benefit in my mind. I feel refreshed and joyful with more energy to tackle things I may have been procrastinating on. One more thing: my family has said they can really sense a difference and nice change in me , even nicer than before ;-). My pants have also become a bit looser as well. I hope you get a chance to go to Shakti. I did the intro series for a couple of months before I moved on and that was just fine. Go and enjoy. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have.
Nice friendly staff. The have a specific style of yoga they follow and for me it was intense but enjoyable classes. I loved that they have early morning classes! I had a full moon over me that I could see through the skylight one morning class I took in the winter, it was magical.
I have been going to Shatki for little over a year and truly enjoy this studio for many reasons. The instructors are thoughtful and well trained. I get inspired by there technique. In the classes I have been attending there is a nice vibe with the other students and the interaction is fun. I have recommended this studio to others and they have all enjoyed it as well.
