This place is a good introductory if needed, but currently I wouldn't recommend for anyone that is uncomfortable with changing partners, as that is a requirement. Also, the classes are mainly designed for middle aged NEW dancers, so as a young adult dancer, I haven't felt particularly comfortable, because it often seems like the students there are either going to look for dates, or they are trying to re-bond with their partner. I haven't found that there is a lot of substantial upward mobility for students wanting to pursue ballroom, unless you take private lessons. This being said, dropping in for a class is not a bad idea. All of the instructors I have had have been respectful and effective, though as a dancer in other areas, I was disappointed in the quality of instruction- though they seem to be doing their best for the older students in the class, attempting to help them with learning steps. It doesn't hurt to try, but accept your limitations and desire to learn!
I hesitated to use my Groupon coupons but now am dancing multiple times a week, losing weight, meeting new people, and having a great time. The instructors at Shall We Dance are very knowledgeable and really patient. A combination of private and group lessons have really helped me get started. This is the only exercise I have ever thoroughly enjoyed. Who knew ballroom dancing could be so much fun.
I got started with a Groupon offer for group lessons at Shall we dance. Meanwhile I am on my third block. As a single mom without a partner it is the most fun I had in a long time. The instructors are friendly, helpful and gracious. After a while you get to know other dancers and it feels very comfortable being part of the group. Unfortunately I can't come on a regular basis, but feel always welcome when I show up. The Friday evening dance parties are great for practicing what one remembers from the lesson during the week. I can highly recommend the place.
I went to Shall We Dance to propose to my girlfriend. I'll just say they were more than wonderful and made the moment absolutely perfect. Not to mention, very fun lessons!
It was my first time taking a lesson with Shall We Dance a couple of weeks ago. It was a Salsa group class. The instructor kept going and adding new moves to the routine even though 4 out of 15 people were obviously lost. He was aware (he made eye contact with and was watching those students who could not keep up), yet he just continued through new moves. I was very disappointed and wished I could have my money back. Hands down the worst instruction I have received in terms of group lessons.
I was reluctant to even go after I had purchased the Groupon, but I'm glad I did. The instruction was so easy to follow even for a klutzj! Joseph made me at ease in spite of myself and I found the time flew by. If you really want to learn to dance, I highly recommend "Shall We Dance".
