Mt Wilson Trail

Good for kids
I went during the winter right after a good rainfall. We started the hike around 1:00pm and it was still not too hot. We hiked to the Lower First Water Junction. I would recommend bringing some water and snacks to be able to enjoy at the stream. It is also a nice place to hang out for lunch. The stream is super cold but refreshing after a hike. I would recommend wearing some warm clothing because it was cold when going back down the mountain. Please take your trash with you to keep Mt. Wilson clean for others to enjoy.

Nice view! Narrow pathway, I don’t recommend it for kids but it’s a great hike for adults.
Beautiful hike but it's actually a little over 8 miles to the summit, not 7 as posted. Ran into a black bear cub while turning a blind corner on the way down...walked back up about 100 yards and took a 10 minute break. By that time the bear had gone on its way and I continued down. If you want to do this hike instead of the Chantry Flats route, I recommend starting up early. I made the mistake of starting at 9:30 am. By the time I reached First Water, it was already hot. Took my time and stopped at Orchard Camp for lunch. From that point, until you hit the toll road, it's steep and brutal on a hot day. Reached the summit parking lot by 3:30 and walked around the observatories. Didn't start my decent until 5 which might've been a little late since the forested part of the trail was almost dark with no sun hitting it. With the bear delay and a few stops to catch my breath and stretch my aching legs, I got down a few minutes before 8...A challenging hike for a beginner like me, but the views were well worth it.
A great trail for a burn, moderate to difficult terrain. I Wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for a easy walk.
Mt. Wilson via Little Santa Nita Canyon 4/27/2019 Parking is free and is on a residential street. There is a public restroom in the park. We arrived around 6:45 am and were able to grab a close spot Beautiful mostly covered trail that does feature a creek. The sound of running water is good for the soul. Feels like you are not in So Cal. First few miles are a steady climb, but not too bad. Trail does get steep, I would not recommend for a novice hiker. Day started overcast, but we did hike above the clouds and the views were amazing, like s white carpet. There is a cafe at the summit that serves hot dogs, chili, looked like homemade apple pie, Gatorade, sodas and water. Tours of the observatory are available. Credit cards are accepted. There is a station to fill water bottles. I definitely recommend bug spray, a couple spots were very bad. Be careful, we did see a lot of poison oak, but it is easily avoidable. Dogs on leash are allowed. Trail Rating ***** I’d do it again tomorrow **** I’ll do it again, it after I hike new trails ***I’ll do it again if someone asks **I’ll begrudgingly do it again *I’ll never do it again
