Its a great place to experience and say "I've been there". I suggest you plan ahead and reserve your tickets for preferably earlier in the day should there be an exhibit that requires sign up the day of only. You can follow them on Twitter to get an idea for the standby lines.

This place is truly a hidden gem. While its location is a little off the beaten path and it's not as celebrated as many of the other Smithsonian and is much smaller every exhibit and every square inch of this museum is its own dynamic of the history of health science and medicine. Some exhibits may not be for the faint at heart but all are truly fascinating an offer a valuable insight that can rarely be obtained in a public museum that is open and accessible to all everyday except Christmas. Checking this place out is a must. Add it to the top of your priority list.

Come one, come all to see shards of President Lincoln's skull! Seriously, this is an excellent museum with well preserved and respectfully displayed specimens. However, if you have children or a weak stomach, you definitely want to pass on this one.

Good collection but specimen collected by military tend to be repetitive. Display and narratives can be a bit more focused. Even medical/surgical professionals may find this somewhat dry.

Small but interesting museum. There are some special exhibits such as the one regarding Abraham Lincoln. I also enjoyed the exhibits for the advances in military medicine, civil war medicine, and the effects of disease and trauma on the human body.

Nice museum to visit however, it isn't very large. Expect to be here no more than 30mins-1hr to view everything in detail. If you are traveling to DC/MD, this is a quick stop you can come by but do not go out of your way if your time there is limited.

It was smaller than I expected, but I enjoyed the education of medicine through history and war applications

We had a wonderful experience! The museum was holding a special event for brain awareness week. We learned so much through interactive exhibits. It was fabulous. Highly recommend.
