Absolutely beautiful church, came up to Alaska to visit family and ended up finding myself. With religious structure after another I now find myself on a pilgrimage. This building validates my love for Russian and Eastern European history and culture. And who knew I would come so close to a crazy Russian historical sites.

Fascinating history! Orthodox priest tells the story of the Russians before Alaska became a US territory. Beautiful artifacts.

A small historic church to learn about important Alaska history. Visited together with Russian Bishop's House and learnt about the arrival and culture impact of the coming of Russian. The entrance fee is 5.

I took a quick look around the church. It's not very big but 5 is worth it to see relics and icons from another church if you are interested. It is fascinating to learn some of the things the Russian church brought here and their efforts to translate the Bible into the native language.

The church was not open, unfortunately no one was there to staff it. So I travelled all the way to sitka to find a church with locked doors. So they lose out on my donation that the signs out in front desperately ask for and I and 2 others lose out also.

They could support the church and church upkeep if they scheduled tours and maybe a St. Michaels related, and open, gift shop. We went the last 2 years and ONLY got in during vespers, once. Beautiful location with recognised historic significance. It really needs paid tours to help with upkeep and maintenance. Also to share the traditions and background surrounding Sitka.
