Sorry I missed this last event. I have many cherished memories of past events over many years. The leadership of Sheila Coates and her members is worthy of note. May they have many more to come. I pray blessings on their partnerships and the necessary work that they do. No easy task but undertaken with pride and excellence. The relationships developed with our sisters are heartfelt. Sincerely shared, Dr. Carolyn G. Thomas, Canada

I have no idea what Brian Ford is talking about because I too was at the wreathlaying ceremony yesterday, and it was WONDERFUL! Klan rally? He can't be serious and politics was BARELY mentioned. It was a representative from the Democratic party there, but he was just asked his party affiliation and that was it. They almost forgot to even introduce him, which will tell you that politics was not an issue. And because the nation is embroiled in the possible impeachment of Donald Trump, ALL SPEAKERS steared clear of that topic and stayed on message. They kept the program moving. The choirs were awesome, and the keynote speaker, Dr. Medford was wonderful! She made it clear that it was the SLAVES who made it possible for Mount Vernon to become what it is now, which is a beautiful estate, and that it was the enslaved who toiled and gave their lives for the comfort of the Washington's. We were there to commemorate and celebrate THEM , which is what the program is about. The whole program was elegantly done and it was an honor to be there. If you couldn't receive that, then that's your problem. Everyone was visibly moved at the marked gravesites and the actual wreathlaying was beyond words. If you can make it next year, please don't listen to Brian Ford. It's a wonderful, moving experience. The Black Women United for Action, and the Mount Vernon Ladies Association are doing a wonderful thing!

I come from the midwest brought my family and was thrilled to see they had a wreath laying ceremony at Mount Vernon for the slaves who were subjugated and forced to work the many plantations but after about 10 mins it became a reversed Klan rally and a democratic party rally the conduct of the Black Women United for Action was beyond my imagination so I had to privately go pay my respects to those individuals enslaved. My 3rd great grandfather fought against slavery for the union army then later after being medically charged him and his brother helped escaping slaves work their way into Canada via Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York so their political banter was a personal insult to my family it wasn't the time and place for it. I was surprised that Mount Vernon would allow that to take place. Would they allow the Klan to hold a ceremony? The BWAU should take a history class given the democratic party was the party of slavery and jim Crowe. It's a shame they ruined what would have been an amazing event. This organization does a great disservice to the community and women my wife was shocked and disheartened.
