I visited the Universal Food Market a few days ago looking for seaweed sheets that I've purchased from here in the past. I didn't find the product here on my visit, but I still wanted to provide a review of my shopping experience. The Staff wasn't very friendly or helpful and this wasn't my first time feeling this way. It could be due to language barriers, but for whatever reason, they're never active with customers. Unless it has a photo included on the products or you know the language, you are stuck not knowing what anything is because it's in another language. On my visits I have to pull out my cell phone and look up the names on the packages when I don't recognize what it is especially the fresh produce and meats/fish. It would be helpful for those that don't know the language that some of the items have American names or at least a section name. They do have fresh fish and seafood that's available and living in tanks or containers in the meat section. These were labeled with names one could recognize. Beware of purchasing items from this market that are molded and/or outdated. Check the expiration date on everything that you're looking to purchase. In the produce section there are handwritten signs that say 'if you touch the produce, you have to purchase it.' Also at the register if you spend less than 10 on a debit card you are charged a convenience fee. On a positive note, this market does have ample parking.

Clean, polite, well stocked, amazing produce; I do love shopping here. I cook. I cook a lot. The right ingredients make all the difference. This little gem has made living near a city almost with it. Just a huge blessing to my family by their very existence. Woot!

I really wanted to like this place. Went in to check it out and it was kinda sketchy outside with all the lights off and we were the only people in the store apart from employees. The store immediately had a bad smell, not the asian store smell, more like rotting. Much of the store inside seemed to be emptied and no longer in use. The employees barely acknowledged our presence then proceeded to blatantly ignore us when standing at the lit up check out counter. Someone finally came to check us out and barely said a word. They seemed annoyed thay we were there. We ended up only buying a few packaged snacks (felt bad if we walked in and left without buying anything), and the rest seemed kinda sketch to purchase anything else (Things didn't seem very fresh). Will definetly be going to check out Jays international next to compare and Panasia supermarket continues to be our favorite in Manchester.

Great place to find Asia specialty food. Much cheaper then anything online. Found everything on my list easy enough.
