My daughter attending "horse camp" last summer (2014). This was her first camp of this type and loved it. She had so much fun and met new friends. She loved her pony that she was able to ride all week. She loved the art work that she did. We signed up again for this summer and hope that one of her good friends is able to join her during the same week. She her website has all the information you need and she also has a Facebook page.

Sonya, volunteers and her farm are amazing! My 8 year old is blossoming under Sonya's care and supervision. Her confidence has increased from learning how to care for and ride the horses and handle other farm animals. As a parent, I'm very pleased with my daughter's experiences....from the exposure and use of different art mediums, to the freedom to be herself and enjoy the camp based on her needs. We look forward to many more wonderful times at Stargazer Stable!
Stargazer Stables is a great place. My eight year old daughter loves Ms. Sonya! That is why she will be attending 4 weeks of camp this summer. Sonya is very patient and kind to everybody. She is definitely gifted in both art and horseback riding. Lessons and camp are very affordable. Thank you Sonya for blessing our community with an awesome place for children (& adults).
Two years ago, my 10 year old daughter did not know the front end from the back end of a horse. She is now an accomplished rider and jumper who looks forward to every lesson and camp at Stargazer Stables. Sonya Barnes' instruction is rooted in sound fundamentals and geared toward the sheer joy of riding, providing an understanding of how horses think and move and how riders develop confidence. She has horses of various sizes, from small ponies to comparatively fast and capable jumpers. Sonya knows her business: she has a lifetime of experience and was a barrel racer in her day. During the riding sessions she is assisted by older (teenage) volunteers, riders who have trained under her for some time. Campers saddle and unsaddle horses, learn to put bits and bridles on the horses, and they walk them to and from stalls or the fields. The facility is at her home; the art is inside, in a studio, and the action outdoors is in a busy, old-fashioned barnyard complete with ducks wandering around, as well as goats and dogs and even a barn cat scampering this way and that. Bunnies are multiplying every so often, as are chicks in the little menagerie out front by the parking area. A turtle and a few frogs live in the fountain. The tiny offspring are constantly manhandled by all the kids (who are very eager to show their parents just how expert they are) and this is what leads to that busy barnyard: all these species go about their business absolutely indifferent to one another, as though sharing a city block. In the summer camps, the kids swim in the pond on some days; during the winter weekend sessions, they cook marshmallows over a fire. They come home utterly filthy everyday yet completely exhilarated. Stargazer is every bit the old fashioned camp we parents had when we were kids. No computer game, daycare, or YMCA camp can match the experience.
What a great time the grandchildren had at horse art camp this weekend. They are looking forward to more visits. A great value too.!
My 7 yr old daughter went to two weekend art and horse camps, she had so much fun! She couldn't wait to go back and enjoy all the activities. They did art projects, rode horses, roasted marshmallows, fed/petted ducks and goats, frog catching, and bunny petting! She is already signed up for one of the themed summer camps, and she can not wait. Mrs Sonya is so kind and patient with all the kids. She helped my daughters confidence around the horses but letting her try the things herself without just taking over.
