Absolutely a wonderful hike! I would strongly suggest hiking up to get the best experience of this wonderful mountain. If you hike up and look at how big it is after from the memorial lawn it is spectacular. I will have to come back here again to explore more! I would strongly suggest stopping here if you’re thinking about it!

Stone mountain is great day activity. We did the walk up trail which says one mile and 30 minutes. It definitely took us over an hour to make it to the top. It is a bit steep at times and can be difficult. We went over to the carving and it was incredible to see. How did they accomplish that! We went in January and it wasn't too busy! Would definitely come back!

When I heard this was carved by the same artist who did Mount Rushmore, I expected something a little more... just more... than a stone relief carved on the side of a mountain. It was impressive, something I've always wanted to see, especially now that there's been talk of destroying it. But I don't I'll have reason to go back again unless I'm just going camping in the very nice park that surround it.

We stayed at Stone Mountain Park because we had to attend a function in Atlanta and needed a nice place to camp nearby. I tend to prefer state or local parks to private campgrounds in most cases. It is often difficult to find a scenic place to camp near a big city, but Stone Mountain is definitely an exception to that rule. Although we were only there two nights, and it was cold and wet for most of our stay, what we were able to see made us want to stay longer and explore. In fact, the lake with the mountain in the backdrop created a very serene atmosphere. The site we had was pretty level, although we saw many that were not, and the full hook ups were nice. However, because of the way that the concrete pad was constructed, it was almost impossible to screw the sewer elbow into the ground connection. After some choice words and creative maneuvering, I got it in well enough to ensure that it would not come out. The cable TV was fuzzy on some channels, but that seems to happen often. The wifi worked fine. I did not use the comfort stations, so I cannot comment on them. But the camp staff that I encountered were very pleasant and helpful. All in all, I would recommend Stone Mountain Park as a good place to camp if you are looking to explore a scenic park as well as Atlanta and its surroundings.

I visited here a little more than a year ago. The area was well maintained, and the hike to the top was relatively easy. The area can get very crowded, but it's still a fun experience. The laser show is truly fantastic and some parts were fun while over parts were sincerely moving. This is overall a great attraction, but don't expect it to be a nature park.
