I was getting ready to move to the Topeka area from Pennsylvania and knew I would want an ELCA congregation. I began searching churches and found First right away. I was able to watch the recorded service and get a feel for Pastor Jackson and her style (which I absolutely loved!!). As I checked out their page I found many activities I was able to participate in and that the church participates in throughout the community. When I got to Topeka I stopped by the church on a random Wednesday and was greeted by a member carrying flowers out who immediately greeted me and connected me with the bell choir director's number who called me that same day. I then went to the other entrance and was able to meet with Pastor Jenny who was so welcoming and friendly to chat with. I have been attending ever since and have loved every moment. They are a very welcoming congregation!!

I visited the church on Christmas Eve. I was the only African American person there, which is not shocking to me because in my job, in meetings, etc., I am often the only African American in the group & there's no problem. My first interaction with others was when you greet each other with \Peace Be With You\. The couple in front of me said it to me ; I said it to them & stuck out my hand; & they would not shake my hand. I just stood there and looked at another young man in the row ahead of me & he looked at me; but made no attempt to approach me; & after the previous experience, I didn't either. A very nice young man in my row came over, extended his hand & said, \Peace Be With You\, & I said the same. The Associate Pastor was very friendly to me, as were the ushers and a few other people. I really enjoyed the service. No one invited me to come back.

This congregation is warm and caring, very supportive of its members and surrounding community. Members and youth are engaged in Topeka, NE Kansas, and ELCA community. Very welcoming to youth and young families and has a Children’s Day Out Program.

Call to talk to the female Pastor there. Then was accused of bothering the family, A bunch of Lies, now I understand why the grandmother did not associate with them or prove that the way they do things in their Church would not recommend this to anybody if cause Grace trust and don't even want anybody to visit their dying grandmother aren't they a special bunch. may God have mercy on all of them!!! Very mean people
