My wife and I were traveling home from Kansas City from a surgery and she was having severe pain that was out of control. We were traveling through Topeka and decided that an emergency room was needed to see if anything was going wrong. We waited for nearly an hour to talk to the doctor and he walked in and just crossed his arms and said there’s nothing they could do. He didn’t do an examination, lab work, or call the surgeon to discuss complications, infection, etc. We went the next day to the emergency department in our hometown and they did a thorough exam, lab work up, and took action to help the uncontrollable pain. I feel sorry for the citizens of Topeka that this is their resource for emergency medical care.

They know NOTHING about epilepsy and that there is multiple kinds of seizures. Not did they try to help me after having multiple seizures 2 days before,2 grandmal back to back minutes apart on the 12th. I was back 2 days later because my neurologist told me to go in because constant seizure auras and he wanted me admitted but I was sent home even though I had a partial seizure in the ER and they said it wasn't a seizure because by the time they responded I was alert. Before I went into the seizure the few people I saw were chit chatting a laughing and the doctors don't listen and the second that seen me was very rude.

Waste your time, money, and patients. If you're lucky enough for them to actually do anything besides keep you in a room for hours on an IV and then say they can't figure it out and discharge you, then they run tons of tests without really looking into them and if they can't find it out but there is an obvious serious problem, instead of admitting you, they'll discharge you and tell you to just make an appointment with your doctor days away when you need help NOW! If you need serious help right away, good luck!

Went with my wife who just had a c section the day prior and was sobbing her surgery related back pain was so bad. Took them 5 hours to give her a shot of anxiety medication, look at an X-ray for diagnosis with talk of blood clots. and then kick her to the street and tell her there isn’t anything wrong. All with about an hour/hour and a half wait time between each event. Honestly think they’re more interested in helping the drug addicts/belligerent drunks that came in that night, then someone who just wants to go back home to see their new children. Waste of time and money.

The quality of healthcare there has fallen the doctors look for one thing and push you out the door without a proper diagnosis. I went in last night with chest pain and left arm pain and the doctor only checked me for a heart attack and rushed me out the door with no offer of pain management or relief.
