Place to go to see mt st helens’ beauty and majestic view! Perfect place for a road trip!

We went up early in the morning to watch a sunrise on the mountain. It was one of the most majestic mornings ever! We were the only ones there which made it even better! The trails nearby are a steep and treacherous at certain spots, but fun none the less! Can't wait to go back!

Wonderful place to visit in the summer and winter. In winter, call ahead to see if the coldwater lake gate is closed

Mt St Helens is a NW must-see. If you have not yet, you simply must see it. Nearly 40 years later, the devastation from the 1981 blast is still evident. The Johnston Ridge spot is the most spectacular for the view, as well as a good starting off point for a good hike to Spirit Lake. The observatory was closed due to covid restrictions, on our last visit, though a small gift shop was open. Usually this observatory (and the other along the drive from I-5) are fun, educational, great stops for the family. One side note: Although the parking lot is a bit of an uphill walk to the observation landing, benches are positioned along the way. This was helpful for our 81 year old mom with mobility issues. There are not benches at the top, however. Also, there's very little shade available on a sunny day, so plan for that.

The actual observation post was closed when I went but still a beautiful place

Beautiful view!! Be careful up there right now though. The snow was knee deep. Take a 4x4 and maybe a shovel.

Only wish we could have gone into the observatory. But due to Covid-19, it was closed on August 26, 2020. We'll be back another time for sure! I love this place and what it teaches us about this major historical event in the current era, even happening in my lifetime.
