I came across the online classes when my wife and I had just moved to Tucson in 2005. They were just what I needed at the time, and studying online led to my meeting several revered teachers (in addition to Khenpo Dean!) and finding a community that was both welcoming and helpful. Although we moved from Tucson to Phoenix in 2009 and to Indiana in 2014, the connections we made there continue to sustain us.

I am a student. My instructor is quick to answer my questions and to guide me in the studies. She is patient and there is no pressure to finish my classes within six weeks. I am allowed to move as I process and understand the teachings.

Friendly study and practice center for those new to Buddhism and those familiar with advanced practices. Khenpo is accessible and helpful, and advanced students are very attentive to beginning students. A variety of classes are offered at the center and on-line. At various times of the year teachings are given by Lamas. Awam also has monthly social events. It is nice the center offers chairs for those who are unable to sit on floor cushions. This center operates entirely on donations, and there is never any pressure to donate.

AWAM has been a wonderful discovery. I've enjoyed advanced study with Khenpo Dean and a small group of students looking at various commentarial texts for several years. It's also an excellent place to start on the path of practice and study in the Nyingma tradition, with strong guidance provided all the way. I especially appreciate the availability of video recordings online. These are really helpful with reviewing the material, and for distance learners. AWAM's sequential curriculum is well-organized. I highly recommend it!
