I keep my eye out for two things on trails: rattlesnakes and poison oak. I saw one snake which clearly wasn't a rattler. But there was LOTS of poison oak, and in several places it was growing across the trail, especially at the earlier parts of the trail. I was geared up to run the trail, but there was so much poison oak and overgrowth that I couldn't run much of it. Most of the trail is quite narrow with sheer drops into the canyon, but it does have some good views. And even in August there was some water in the creek bed. I definitely wouldn't recommend this trail for kids or dogs or people who are highly allergic to poison oak or are unfamiliar with what it looks like. But otherwise the trail is in decent shape and was nice to explore as a new place.

With snow line so low, here is really like a fairy tale world. You can along the snow line and hear the flow of water. You think if you come to the wrong place but then you see a big waterfall. This trail is amazing.

This is one of the best hikes in the San Gabriel's and a must do. The climb is not difficult and some fun class 3 rock climbing. Make sure to take extra care on descent since most accident happen while descending. Follow the Colby Canyon trail all the way to a water tower that is on the Strawberry Saddle. You will begin the ascending part of the hike here and follow the ridge up. Follow the use trail and you will get to the class 3 scramble in around .75 miles from saddle. There will be one sketchy section before the main climb. Once you get to the base of the peak you will know that you are crazy. Make sure to try to follow the faded green /black arrows painted on the rock face to the top. Hike Length: 6 Miles Round Trip Elevation Gain/Loss : 2600 feet Hike Type : Out & Back Difficulty: Moderate / Strenuous Seasons: Year Round Kid Friendly : No Dog Friendly : No Parking: Adventure Pass

Although parking lot is not that big, it’s not full during the snow season which is blessing. We can park here and walk to strawberry peak. This is my first time to see strawberry peak in full snow. Lots of waterfall along the way.
