This is a very small airport but I have been in smaller ones. The staff is very professional given the physical limitations of the facility. Seating is limited as there is only one gate. Leaving the airport was very efficient, however ARRIVING was a different story. The authorities go through every bag once it is unloaded from the plane and before they release them. The process takes over an hour. My hotel, the King Eider Inn, even suggested that I go across the street to the hotel and check in while waiting for my bags. I guess they are checking for drugs or large amounts of alcohol as it is controlled here.

From where I come from, this place is extremely cold. I liked it though. It felt like air-conditioning was all around me except 5 times colder. I’d like to come back one day.

There are currently only two flights in and out each day. The luggage area is very small and it'll take a long time to get all of your bags. People stack up quick and the bags stack up quick. However, most people help to take the luggage out of the area to allow more bags to be put out. There is no belt that your luggage gets put on. It's just good old fashion manpower. Two employees take your luggage off of a forklift and put it on a small metal slope. The ticketing agents are friendly. We flew in and out regularly and never had a poor experience with staff.

Small, cramped. 1 or 2 flights per day, limited space. Quite cold, but I don’t mind. The Inupiaq civilization’s nice, though, and the only way to get in and out of Barrow is by plane or boat.
