This is a friendly and caring community. A wonderful and spiritual church of Ancient Christianity. Orthodox Church of America

I haven't even gotten to attend yet and Fr. Michael already seems welcoming, helpful, kind and patient. I'm hoping to convert and as you know, life can be hectic, so it's been phone tag for a while. But here he is, willing to welcome me into the church to meet. They are child friendly, I know because he welcomed my son, under two. So that's no small thing. I cant wait to have help working out my salvation. I'll try to get in here and do an update :)

It's nice. It's interesting! It's humble and small, while still fulfilling its role as an Orthodox church! I'm glad I've done reading and research about the Eastern Orthodox before attending so it wasn't a big shock! The atmosphere is solemn and respectful while allowing for some casual chaos and even some individual worship. Most of the people stand through the entire service and only use the seats around the edges of the room if tired or unable to stand because of health reasons. All in all I had a good experience and I did enjoy it and the people!

Orthodox Christian church. The people are wonderful, kind, inviting and just a pleasure to be around. If you are searching for authentic Christian worship, start here.

Growing up in the Evangelical Protestant tradition, church was a place where SINNERS could go and achieve atonement, reconciliation, and redemption. The biggest problem with the Orthodox Church in general, and Holy Apostles Parish is no exception, is that one does NOT get the impression that it is a place for sinners but rather a place for rich "ethnic" people with Patel-syndrome* to rub noses with each other and seem important. Indeed, I attended Divine Liturgy last Sunday and said that I was struggling with suicidal ideation. I was chased out of there more quickly than you can say "Do svidanya". If Church is not the place where one can find comfort in their sin, then I ask: what the IS the purpose of Church? Oh, but see sentence #2. *Patel-syndrome "Patel" is a common surname among the merchant class in India. Patel-syndrome indicates the snobbery and arrogance that commonly results when Patels come to America and become doctors, lawyers, etc (especially because of affirmative action political policies in American universities) or other things they couldn't be in their own country.....and, by extension, any person who achieves a sudden increase in socio-economic status by their immigration to the United States or other affluent Western Nations.
