My husband and I went to Old Drum & Friends Animal Shelter on Monday, March 2nd after deciding to look at adoptable dogs. We had talked about what we were \looking for\ based on our needs with two young children, my husband's job that takes him away often, and not having a fenced-in yard. As the list grew, we were worried we wouldn't find a good fit for our family because we were essentially looking for a \perfect\ dog that was already potty trained and well behaved without any aggression. When we arrived, the staff was welcoming and allowed us to look at the dogs on our own so that we could get familiar with their temperaments and not feel rushed into a decision. After looking at all the dogs, we asked the the staff for their input on a few different ones and told them what we were looking for. They immediately told us about a dog that they thought sounded perfect for us so we got him out of the kennel and played with him in the fenced-in area. We knew also immediately that he was the one for us and then proceeded to discuss the adoption process. We had such a great experience and appreciated how knowledgeable and experienced both the staff members and volunteers were about their animals. We felt that they were honest about which dogs to avoid with small children or other animals, and which would be more likely to run free if given the chance. They gave us as much information on the dogs that they had and it was obvious that they knew each animal very well without having to pull files. We are so grateful that Old Drum & Friends was able to connect us with Goose (previously known as Jr. at the shelter!) and we will certainly be back when the time comes. Thank you so much for helping us add Goose to our family. He is such a sweetheart and the perfect fit our us.

I absolutely love the staff!! They are so devoted and positive. We adopted our Stella from them, and am thrilled every day that we did. The shelter was so clean and inviting. We went to meet Stella before we adopted her, and they provided us a room, with toys, to help us introduce ourselves. I recommend them whole heartedly to anyone who will listen. pic of Stella because she is absolutely adorable.
I love coming here. The adoption process keeps people away who aren't interested in the well being of animals and is super great for those who are.
I cannot tell you how many countless wonderful experiences I have had with the shelter, from adopting my own dog, Buddha Bear (going on 8 years old) to teaming up with them on sharing resources between Warrensburg Cat Advocates and the shelter when it comes to our community cats. We are in nearly daily contact with one another, and never left wondering. Kayla and team are nothing short of amazing and have in a short matter of time have created something better for this community than we have had in some time. We are better together! This is nothing short of a FIVE STAR organization! The WCA team, my family and I love Old Drum!
