A very good surprise: the food is in the right quantity and the quality is very good as well. I tried several dishes I love because I was used to eat them in France. The Diplomat doesn’t have to blush. It is honestly in the same team of the famous Parisian bistros. I will definitely come back to that place when I visit Washington again. The bread is excellent. Fantastic meal and experience in one of the outdoor heated chalets. Food and drinks were phenomenal. Crazy though the current times are, Le Diplomate pulled out all the stops to allow ourselves to be immersed in the dining experience and return to a sense of normalcy. Very well heated, more so than expected (which is a good thing).
Walk up reservations are taken til around 4pm. Be prepared to wait a while unless you booked a reservation ahead of time, and it's highly encouraged to do so. Food was very good, service however was hit or miss, some of the wait staff were rude but most were extremely great and lovely. Dining is predominantly outside, so if it's cold outside you will need to wear your jacket during the dining experience. This place is up there on price, so be prepared to pay quite a bit. Mostly why I gave it four stars out of five, food was good, but unless it's a special occasion, I will not be back. Worth trying for sure in DC.

My husband and I were visiting from FL and made reservations here since it comes highly recommended! We arrived on time and had to wait 15 minutes to be seated, once seated ( outdoors) we were given a table that was lopsided and would tip over by any movement, super uncomfortable chairs and quite honestly the worse seats they had. I asked if there was any way that we could be moved to another table and they told me it could be 30 minutes or more so of course we decided to stay. The 2 hostess ( females) in the front were very rude and when we asked if we could have a menu after waiting 15 minutes to be seated and another 15 minutes without a waiter we were told to go up to the door and look at the menu on the wall! My husband asked if there was a menu he could take back to the table and they gave him a menu with an attitude. Beyond unprofessional! At this point, it was 9 PM and we weren't about to go look for another place so we decided to take our chances with the food. Thankfully once our waiter arrived he was nothing but kind, helpful and courteous! The food was EXCEPTIONAL, onion soup is a MUST, we had the escargot which was also very delicious and the peppered steak for the hubby and Mediterranean Sea bass for me. The food was top notch! I would have given them a 5 star review, but customer service is important in restaurants, people want to be treated kindly and fairly when they go out dining so therefore I have to do the 3 stars. I'm sure the owner or management would like to know about their hostess behavior and attitude.
