A museum dedicated to building. The museum features several exhibits dedicated at informing the read about historical information regarding building, the evolution of buildings, types of buildings and buildings role within society. The interior of the building is worth the visit alone, stunningly large columns and a fountain can be found within. The museum is housed in the former Federal Pension office, which at the time was one of the largest brick buildings in the world.
This museum is a gem! The spectacular main hall alone is worth a visit. It is unlike anything else in DC and the best special events space, hands down. Their exhibits are always interesting, and kids LOVE the family programs. (Parents love having a large indoor area kids can run around in.) It is also extremely easy to get to by the red, green, or yellow Metro lines.
I expected a different theme.. expected to see more tangible objects, building materials, models and such.. but it was mostly pictures!! My favorite room was in the home section with all the products/models/cottages it had.. Also.. there wasn’t much to see, there should be more rooms!
An interesting building with nice exhibits
The building alone is worth visit! Just a grand structure, both as a feat of engineering and architecture. Washington's first neo-Renaissance, _not_ neo-classical, building.
Only exhibits are open. Kids play areas are closed and cafe is closed. Signs are everywhere about wearing masks and social distancing. Looking forward to interactive exhibits. Not busy on a Friday.
Definitely not what I expected but I really enjoyed this museum. The lay out was a little weird and it wasn't super obvious where the exhibits where but the building itself has a lot of character. Some of the exhibits where a little weird and not terribly interesting, but I was very captivated by the rest. The hoops and house & home exhibits were great! The lawn was very fun and kid friendly as was a lot of the museum. The gift shop had a lot of fun things, but was a little pricey. We spent just over 3 hours here and I was very happy with my visit. Good vibes all around!
