I am so incredibly happy to have found this gem in Georgetown. What a lovely, lovely store! SO many interesting books, the prices are amazing, and the people there are the nicest, sweetest people ever. I cannot wait to go back, honestly I might go back tomorrow and the next day and the next. If you're a book addict, you simply must go to The Lantern Bookshop. I loved my visit there today.

The classic charm of a stuffy, quiet book store. A quiet spot to get away from the buzzing streets of Georgetown.

The lady working the store is rude and unwelcoming. Came in ten minutes before the store was closing and as soon as we walked in she said "ah we're closing so unless there's something specific you want, you should just turn around and walk out." Nothing special about the store either, came in a time before and it's mostly newer used paperback books, was expecting something cute and old, with rare books, definitely not the case. Not worth an out of the way stop.

I am an avid book collector but I am not a fan or places that are too high priced that no one can afford their books. This is not one of those places! I found a large assortment of lovely new and used books as really good prices. I talked to the owner and most books are either donated or ones that they find and she uses the money for scholarships for woman college students at Bryn Mawr College! What a great place!

Very nice community bookstore. Most books are under 5 and the selection changes every time I visit. It's worth a stop inside.

The Lantern is a cozy and eclectic bookshop, and well worth a visit, but for those of us who don't live in Georgetown, its hours make this difficult. During the week it closes at 4 PM on the days it is open. I realize that it is run by volunteers, but longer hours--ideally into the early evening--would be a great encouragement to customers. For instance, I have an event at Georgetown University Library on Thursday at 6 and thought I might visit the bookshop beforehand. But this isn't really workable, given the early closing at 4. Sigh. --md
