I waa blown away by the sheer beauty of this place. There are a LOT of places to go birdwatching in the valley and this is definitely one of, if not the best places to go. In just a few afternoon hours I saw: turkey vultures, Harris' hawks, white tailed hawks, coopers' hawks, green jays, northern cardinals, woodpeckers, kingfishers, various hummingbirds, flycatchers, warblers, earless lizards, brown and green anoles, an abundance of butterflies, rose bellied lizards and beautiful scenery. The trails are all very well maintained, with bridges and scenic overlooks located throughout the park. Several birdfeeders, ponds, watering holes and varied flora cover the park. Just make sure to bring mosquito repellant. I forgot mine and luckily they had some for free at the front desk but I would still bring some because there are hoardes of mosquitoes there and they will ruin the experience. Overall I highly recommend, it's super close to the valley nature center and estero llano grande as well!

We went to this place 2/7/21 .We are visiting from out of state and the web site shows this as a very interesting place. We were very disappointed in this park .We found the trails (dirt paths) poorly marked. We saw weeds and a few cactus. The only birds we saw were Turkey Vulchers. It was a waste of time and the 8.00 we paid to get in. If you are in the area and want to see some birds and like to hike on gravel marked paths. Go to the State Park a few miles away. We saw several different birds and several different kinds of plants and trees..

Birding Haven! Introduced to this place when they had a Crimson Collared Grosbeak and Blue Bunting. This is a sanctuary in the center of Weslaco. The trails are beautiful and circle around wetlands, a sabal palm forest and even an orange grove. Definitely recommend this place to soothe the soul.
