The wait staff told us that 9/10 go there for a special occasion. The Lark provides an enjoyable venue and experience for a "special occasion" so it's not hard to see why. The food is consistently well-prepared, the service is attentive, and the atmosphere is classy, in a very classic sort of way. You will leave feeling indulged, or rather good about indulging yourselves. That said, it's hard to avoid the impression that the Lark feels "special" because of how "special" the prices are. You just dropped at least 150 pp all included, so it must be "special," right? But the fact is that the food is by no means inventive or exciting. There's no wow factor to command such a premium. In any major US city, the bill would be half as much.

This place used to be good, but they're trapped in the 70's both in both decor and cuisine. The Rack of Lamb Genghis Khan was dowsed in a syrupy "Asian fusion" sauce that I couldn't eat, it was so sweet. The rib-eye was overcooked (we ordered rare, got well). The veil had a disgusting "hungry man" style gravy sauce. The cold food trolley was unsanitary and unimpressive. The "souffle" was sugary whipped egg whites. Five star ingredients being wasted on a five-year-old's palate. It was a very sad, overpriced, disappointing experience.
Consistently excellent. It will be missed in 2016. The theme dinners were always so good.
The Lark "experience" was a true culinary delight! The combined service, cuisine, and atmosphere are what continue to make The Lark one of Detroit's best for fine dining.
Best dinner ever...get the lamb chops...really, you need to get them....everybody else at the table was sad they did not get them...amazing. Also, disregard all the negative reviews...We had read them before we arrived and they are all wrong. Some people are way too picky. I have paid way more for a meal, I thought this was a great value for the food and service. Excellent evening out.
Superior to any home high end restaurant, anywhere in the US and U.K.
