If you have a few minutes to spare and want to visit a lock and keepers house then this is the spot. You can park within approximately a hundred yards with a level walk to it. There is a porta poddy at the corner of the parking lot where the access gate area is. It was cleaner than most gas station facilities. As an added bonus Abner Doubleday hill, the old bridge, and Light's Ford are nearby and have easy parking. Fun quick stop.

A great place for pup walkers and nature lovers but a special favorite for youth oriented groups like scouts or 4H. The National Park Service runs a FANTASTIC (and free!) program that involves coming down the canal in a boat, learning about the responsibilities of the lock keeper with the hands on activities in the house (which includes period clothing!), and then going outside to open and close the lock themselves. Just heads up... No close potties so come with empty bladders!
