The school location closed and refused to issue refunds for the classes that were not held due to Covid regulations. Explained it by having to apply an admin fee and sending a brochure for the classes instead. Will not be returning or recommending if the school survives. Aside from this, not very impressed by Karen and her roughness with people and dogs.

We took a series of beginner classes with our new dog a couple of years ago. The approach was not what we had hoped. Our instructor I think did training for dog shows in addition to teaching this class, and the techniques recommended in class seemed unnecessarily harsh, and robotic. We were hoping for an experience more like what we saw through Seattle Humane Society's training, which considered your dog's body language, and added some perspective to the dog's actions (is she stressed out, etc.). Specifically, we were so uncomfortable with the positioning of the dog collar that in hindsight we probably could have stopped going to class. The instructor wasn't open to any alternative harnesses or collars - just the standard loop around the neck, and insisted that it be tight and high. Regardless of whether this is right or wrong, we told the instructor that we were uncomfortable with that particular approach, but the instructor was basically not up for a discussion. It was a while ago now, but for anyone considering this place, especially for a new dog, I would advise speaking with the instructor ahead of time to make sure you're on the same page and can communicate well.
