Update: Surplus reached out and worked with us on a solution and will be providing a replacement. We appreciate the customer service and willingness to work with us. We purchased a Corning Hot Plate stirrer from Surplus that arrived with the entire motor mechanism for the stirring being corroded nearly beyond recognition. When I contacted the company for some sort of assistance with a unit arriving dead on arrival, I was told that there were no known issues at the facility. As seen in the photo, this level of corrosion does not occur during shipping.
