We stopped by to this museum recently on a little road trip. The history and pride the people of Zapata have for their town is incredible. The museum is a modern facility and you can learn quite a lot! I enjoyed my time there and I will definitely recommend anyone driving on highway 83 to stop by and visit this museum!

What a jewel of a public facility. First off we were impressed with the inviting architecture of the Museum and the layout of the grounds. Once inside we were greeted warmly by the director who gave us a very complete tour of the displays. The foresight and the tenacity of the researchers shows in the completeness and visual attractiveness of the displays and layout. We were very impressed by the overall physical impression and the competence of the director. Bravo

Excellent guides. Knowledgeable, informed, friendly, and courteous. Went the extra mile to inform the visitor about the local history and the local figures of the county.

If you're thinking about visiting the museum, my advice is to skip it. Truly the worst museum EVER! The place is small and the content is okay, but the staff doesn't seem to know what's going on and the director is truly a horrible, rude woman. We were sold tickets just before a private tour started and then asked to leave in a very rude and hostile manner after we had already started walking through the museum. To top it off on, all of the inappropriate and unprofessional behavior came from the museum's director! The director was more interested in yelling and barking at people rather than talking to adults in a calm professional manner. She even got after the private tour group while we were still there. Anyway, we were asked to leave while she used a microphone, so everyone heard her ill-mannered treatment of us as she basically accused of not paying and then told us to leave. At least we got our money back. I will never go back and would encourage anyone wanting to visit to just save yourself the time and money. It's not worth it!

The Zapata County Museum is a must see for anyone who has roots in South Texas along the Rio Grande! We had a wonderful day learning about our rich heritage! Our tour guide, Dr. Flores, was a wealth of knowledge. I highly recommend it! Thank you, Amparo Montes-Gutierrez and Mr. And Mrs. Hildegardo Flores for sharing your time and talent to present and create such a lovely museum. It truly is a gem! I will definitely be back for more visits.
