I always read bad reviews first, and I’m noticing a trend- please keep in mind, that while these guys will help answer questions, it is ultimately up to you to do your own research. In the fish industry we are our own vets. Also, if you’re not quarantining and dipping your fish/coral from ANY store you should- the way the supply chain works is everyone from Petco to these guys tend to all buy from the same importers, so to say one always has ich or infections really isn’t fair. Best practice is quarantine. When you don’t (and I’m certainly guilty of this!) you risk your tank and it is on you, not the store. Like any store there are employees who have more knowledge in some areas than others. I’ve found the owner, Gary, to have a great well rounded staff and always happy to help. Terry is wonderful, especially with freshwater and overall stock and product knowledge, and Hunter, Nathaniel, and the rest of the crew have always been great at answering questions and pointing out new inventory or unique specimens up in saltwater, which is where I mainly go. It is worth the drive for me, I try and go at least once a month - the call of a new tank or extra space for a coral is always calling me. I would check this place out, keep in mind their hours esp peak if you have questions and support this awesome local business. Don’t forget to grab a pastry/pretzel on your way out! Love the Dome!

At best, I'm a novice at the aquarium hobby. I've been setting up an aquarium and navigating all the intricacies that comes with setting up a new aquarium. In doing so, a social media aquarium hobby group recommended the Austin Aqua Dome as a solid, local hub for hobbyists. During my visit, I was greeted and invited to ask any questions I might have. The building calls back to the \Keep Austin Weird\ idea in both supporting a local business *and* being a wonderfully unique shopping experience in offering an infinite collection of aquarium related materiel to purchase- from fresh water to salt/marine, from ponds, to desktop bowls and extravagant custom aquariums. My overall experience was akin to me being a kid going on a great field trip like a previous visitor mentioned in their review. Though I am still waiting to introduce fish to my aquarium, I was able to have questions answered about different live plants suitable to my experience and want for the type of fish community I'll eventually be keeping. I was introduced to a myriad of different plant varieties and they had a wonderfully diverse set of options to choose from. I ended up purchasing 5 plants of two different kinds and a wonderful piece of prepared driftwood for my setup. I also bought a plant solution to introduce and maintain for my water that promotes growth. Finally, because I look to continue my business relationship with Austin Aqua Dome, I purchased a one year membership that will likely pay for itself as my odyssey into this passtime grows. High fives all around and I can't wait to go back again and, if my S.O. doesn't kill me, maybe start a 2nd aquarium in the near future!

Looove this store! Just a fun place to check out if you're in the neighborhood. They have all the supplies for both salt and freshwater creatures, EXCELLENT selection of aquatic buddies and plants, and the staff is lovely and so helpful. Locally owned (I think) too which is super. Highly recommended!

Wow!!! The cookies here are amazing!!! No fish smells or anything! I come here every Tuesday when they get a delivery from the brilliant but mysterious bakery that comes weekly. The fish? Oh yeah they have some cute red shrimp and glow in the dark fish too that you can look at while you eat cookies and upstairs is all the colorful salt water fish to get extra visual stimulation and pleasure while you chew. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable and always answer my questions and they understand even when i have my mouth full of cookies!! Five stars!!!!!

Cool place, knowledgeable staff, huge salt water and fresh water selections! Tucked away off of Ben White, it was like a mini field trip.
