This is the best model train store I have been to in Texas and probably the only one close to my home. I have spent so much money here and I love it. the people at the counter are very, very friendly. If I could I would rate this infinite stars because that's how much I love it. I have seen a lot of stock here and for you Z scale modelers they got it, but not that much. If you have HO scale you will be surprised with all the stock. When I enter I feel like a kid in a candy store. I recommend it a lot.

This shop has lots of stuff for trains. I found a drone which I bought for a Christmas present. They also had models and other things that I didn't spend time looking at. The two guys who were Manning the store were so helpful, knowledgeable and nice that I will definitely go back at some point.

Off the beaten path but worth the trip. They had exactly what I need at the best price in the country on L.G.B. track. The salesman who took care of me was very friendly and represented the company well and with a sense of ownership. It was a pleasure doing business today at a local business. Thank You!

I recently visited First Hobby with my brother and nephew, and we highly enjoyed a very informative visit. The store is not gigantic, but has a nice selection of model railroad items (O, HO, and N scale mostly). The shop seems about 95% dedicated to model railroading, so that is where their knowledge and passion shine. If they don't have something in stock, they can efficiently procure just about anything related to model railroading on the planet. We had a number of technical questions which the owner was able to supply answers for, with a couple of follow-up questions that he was unsure of the answer but took our information and is researching for answers. In particular, he was a wealth of knowledge around educating us on transitioning from traditional to DCC locomotives, and all of the related technologies that a model railroader should consider (details such as a rule of thumb on current draw per loco, which helps with sizing, etc.). He demoed a train for us as well as let us try out the functions of the controls, and really went out of his way to be helpful. In addition, he provided us with a stack of brochures, catalogs, and magazines (all at no cost). We did wind up buying a DCC conversion kit, but there was zero pressure to buy anything; clearly the gentleman just enjoyed sharing his knowledge and talking model railroads. I believe most of their business is online, but it is nice to have a storefront where you can physically see things as well as interact with the staff. His prices also seemed reasonable (less that full retail). I will definitely be doing more business with First Hobby in the future based on this excellent experience; I hope others do the same and keep this nice little shop afloat.
