Barrett Legal Response to: Simone Godwin Ms. Godwin is the opposing party in a contested divorce matter and not an uncontested matter as stated in her review. Unfortunately, Ms. Godwin has not been happy that Attorney John Barrett was protecting his client from her harassing and unwelcome conduct. Further, Ms. Godwin terminated her own attorney and made similar statements as that of Mr. Barrett. It is apparent that Ms. Godwin does not like it when she cannot bully or manipulate people around her. If you are looking for excellent representation and are in a situation similar to this, please do not hesitate to contact Barrett Legal.

Considering hiring an attorney can carry so many emotions. However, after my initial conversation with Donna, I was encouraged that there was hope for a new beginning ahead. Both John and Donna provide detailed explanations of what to expect throughout the process and were diligent and timely in their preparation. I am very thankful to have had their expertise walk me through a very challenging time in my life.

My husband hired this firm for our divorce and we are still not divorced. We have an uncontested divorce with no marital property and still can't get the proper documents from them months later. The parenting plan didn't even include basic information in it that the state required parenting class said to include. The documents are incomplete, misleading, and poorly written. Since my husband and I shared what our attorneys told us and charged us, I know they gave him unethical, fear-based advice and overcharged him. John showed up completely unprepared for our mediation and then dipped out before we had an agreement. I had to write the agreement with my husband using what my attorney gave me. John has continued to pour gasoline on an already tense situation and continues to fan the flame. He has intentionally drawn out this process and pushed us to go to court after we repeatedly told him that we had an agreement. He overbills and underserves. Hiring him has hurt my family and my parenting relationship with my husband. Today when we tried to get a status report, their voicemail was full. He can't even get a real headshot on his website. This firm is unprofessional and I would NOT recommend using them if you want a timely divorce that's reasonably priced. I have already contacted the state bar association about their unethical conduct. I don't go out of my way to say negative things about local businesses, but in this case, when families are at stake, I felt obligated. Pick a different firm and if he's your lawyer, find a new one immediately.

I wish that I had John and Donna during my initial divorce proceedings. I believe that they would have ensured a much fairer division of assets with my ex. They are very professional and thorough in their review of the material evidence and definitely had my best interest in mind representing me.

John was referred to us by a friend to review our son's case on multiple drug felony counts. He had great compassion while guiding us through a very difficult process. He provided great advice to get our son into drug treatment and testing well in advance of a state court hearing. He successfully negotiated a probationary outcome that prevented jail time. His advice to show recovery and clean behavior helped immensely in the final disposition of the judge and D.A. His paralegal assistant Donna was great to work with, as she kept us all on track and provided great empathy to a very nervous family while we went through this trying time.
