I have two girls there the last two years. It is a school that encourages learning as opposed to \schooling\. Kids are immersed in music, art, plays, orchestra, woodworking, handwork...all while learning their ABC's, math, science, reading, etc...by incorporating those concepts into all they do...not just in a specific session. It is not for everyone. Waldorf believes in a child being ready to learn a concept when they are ready to learn. You have to be comfortable and trusting of just the things I so appreciate...minimal homework, no standardized testing and way less emphasis on grades versus true learning. Parents are welcoming and warm...everyone helps out. We moved from Germany, where kids start school at 6 or 7 and have half the school hours, and yet always out perform US kids. Hum? Perhaps because endless studies have shown that hours in the classroom, and starting earlier do not correlate to academic success. Kids get to be kids...while learning.

We are so happy at this school! The staff is great and the teachers awesome and very passionate. They take to the core the Waldorf philosophy of developing the children as human beings. They really have been inspiring our daughter to love to be a curious, thinker, and creator individual.

My children have been at the school for over two years now and I cannot say enough good things about the refreshing focus on what children need to thrive... It’s a fabulous Age 2-8th grade small private school that focuses on three dimensional teaching (screens can wait!) where everybody engages imaginatively in all areas including sophisticated needlework, woodworking, art, wind and string instruments, playtime in a natural setting, integrated with all of the normal academic focus. I'm so grateful we have a Waldorf school here in Charlottesville!

I love this school. We've been very happy parents of a Waldorf student for three years now.
