Apparently they have a clandestine school daily here until 5PM for the children of high Communist Party members. I realize times are hard and good childcare is difficult to come by, but you don't wear starched and pressed white shirts and black pants, then get picked up by someone else if you are just going to your parent's job because there are no other options- like public school- for you during the day. The Chinese would undoubtedly hate for their children to get behind in schoolwork while ours do nothing besides party and smoke prodigious amounts of weed during this pandemic they created.

It was fast. I got to turn in my application then 3 days later I got my visa. There's plenty of parking but I just paid to park on in the garage across the street.

It’s hit and miss. Sometimes it’s quick and most times not. It could be a wait of a couple of hours. Parking is metered in the surrounding area. There is no valet, no covered parking. Be smart get there early. Prepare to invest the first part of your day at the Consulate. If you don’t expedite the process (added cost) you will have to come back in 3 or 4 days. The pick up process is quicker. You could wait 30 min. Also there is metal detector. They check bags. If your the type who carries a utility knife. Leave it in the car. If you neglect to make copies of required documents there is an office on the same floors that help you at a fair price. My advice double check your paperwork, (make sure you sign your passport). Bring something or someone to help pass the time on the drop off. The pick up has always been reasonable. Oh it can be stuffy and bring a pen just in case. They never have one LA residents the train drops off 1 block from the Consulate I recommend that choice. Due to parking. You can street park and end up walking further. If you arrive before the Consulate opens it can be a long line. Show up 30 min after the Consulate opens. There are no guarantees though. I have been there dozens of times. These are some experienced suggestions. Good Luck and Happy Travels

terrible phone service, very difficult to reach anyone for actual help, you just get thrown into a loop calling in edit: after weeks of attempting to contact them through email, finally managed to get through and get attention. I am not sure if this the result of COVID but the response times have been terribly slow of what I would expect of an embassy or consulate. if it helps anyone, they seem to use gmail rather than government email addresses and will respond from what appears to be personal accounts. The account that helped me reach them as [email protected]

Like mentioned below the visa office is actually at 500 on the 3rd floor. I walked in. Scanned my bags with security and got a numbered ticket. I had all my documents ready to go and from the minute I walked in to the minute I was done, was less than 10 minutes! It was insanely fast. Everyone was very friendly. No appointments can be made for Chinese visa so don’t bother. The office closes at 2pm and I walked in at 1:35pm and there was no problem.
