Went to Golden Age Fretted Instruments to buy an amp and was very impressed with their selection and service. They sat me down in front of the amp I wanted with a great guitar and left me alone! There were some truly awesome mid range and high end instruments in there that I wish I had walked out with.

John quoted me 100 to level frets. I wanted fret buzz eliminated with a low action. Instead Ian charged 65 to change strings and raise the action? Was supposed to take 2 weeks &.was supposed to call to discuss prior to doing work (did not). 3 days later Ian told me he had action to a given level but when I came in I measured & it was significantly higher than stated. Then wanted to charge me a total of about 250 to level frets but would credit previous. Hello-- A PLEK costs 200 & is more accurate. Ian stated John does not set rates, do why did he quote? Other techs get 75ish for level. This would have never happened at Mandolin Bros.

I went to this store to get work done on a rare Eastman acoustic. I asked the guitar tech Ian if Grover Nickel V97-18NA StaTite 18:1 Vintage Button tuners were compatible granted the Eastman AC 515 would need an additional hole drilled on the headstock. He reassured that this was no issue. The service cost was 100 and I supplied the strings and tuners. The turn around time was 1.5 weeks. He said the tuners did not come with the proper washers which turned out to be untrue. Ian after drilling additional holes and installing the tuners, realized the tuner's bushings do not fit. He delayed the turn around and stated he would go to home depot and bought washers that loosely sat on the top of the head stock. They were rattily and loose. Made everything sound terrible. I brought it back he and asked if I wanted to glue the washers on at which time I requested a whole new set of tuners to be put on. Didn't end up with the planned tuners. I was still charged full amount and due to having to replace another set of tuners, Ian had to drill another set of wholes making it 3 total now per tuning machine. All around, horrific service and experience. Tainted a rare Eastman AC 515 mini jumbo acoustic that is nearly impossible to replace. Highly dissatisfied with the lack of customer experience and service.

Great spot, amazing collection, friendly staff...so it pains me to write this. I was charged 100 and it two weeks time to glue down the binding on the back of my Taylor. I'm a huge advocate of spending locally, even if it costs a bit more, but this was too much.

I could spend hours here! The owner, John, and staff are absolute professionals... and all around cool guys with no pretension. They are knowledgeable, friendly and passionate and will happily take as much time with you as needed to find your perfect fit. If you need repair work, Pete Becker is the best of the best. Ian Peters, who originally filled in for Pete, I believe, is now a permanent fixture in Pete’s repair department. He is a perfect addition to New Age. I know they offer lessons, too. Even though you almost feel like you’re walking into a museum, as these guitars are all top of the line and literally pieces of art, the atmosphere is not intimidating at all. A must see whether you’re just shopping in Westfield or a guitar connoisseur! Thanks guys!!
