4½ if it would let me put it. If you are like me, and have an interest in both the newer and older types, brands, scales, and styles of model trains, then this is the place for you! He carries quite a bit of older, harder to find stock, and compared to many higher end places, his prices are right around current market value or lower, which is a definite plus. Yes, the place is a bit cluttered, but if you are patient and careful, with the help of his on-computer inventory, you can find quite a few hidden treasures at this shop. I've known of the gentleman who runs the place since I was quite young and new to model railroading, over 20 years ago, and if there's anything I've gained with age, it's that you learn to understand people better when you have known them a while; he is a good man, and will treat you fairly, and if you can do the same in return, the benefits are heaped on tenfold. It is my intention, with this review, to spead the word of this wonderful hidden gem of a shop, that he may be allowed the business he deserves and is able to grow thereby. Just as he can help you in looking for your model railroading needs, you can help him by your patience and patronage.
This place is so cluttered that my elderly train loving father almost fell trying to look for things. I will be calling the town of highland to ask how this store is able to keep running with the fire codes lake county has.
If like me and are looking for older stuff and looking for harder stuff to find this is a good place to look. The owner was very helpful and was willing to contact me if he comes across some things I was looking for.
