My 2 oldest boys began drum lessons with Nick Mangini just under 10 years ago. He retired 6 months later and JJ took over the drum school. She was a natural progression from a well-known, accomplished drummer and instructor respected in the area. Since then, all 4 of my children, 3 boys and 1 girl, have taken lessons, with the youngest girl still playing. All 4 of my children had different learning styles, different likes in music, different motivation. She successfully taught all of them. She is a true teacher knowing how to reach each child and bring out the best in each one. She is always supportive and encourages each student to do their best both musically and in life. It's not just good enough to be amazing at your craft. To be a teacher, you have to maintain the spark of their curiosity and impart your knowledge to them appropriately. She is the whole package and a great person!

JJ started providing drum lessons to my (then nearly 7 year old) son in August 2018. In November 2018, Leo participated in his first drum showcase. It was a wonderful experience. He always wanted to play drums and it's great to have such a professional, kind, courteous and patient teacher in JJ. We paused lessons last year as we prefer in-person so we were glad to resume this past February.
JJ is an amazing musician and a truly gifted teacher! During the past 3 1/2 years with JJ, our 3 boys continue to surprise us (and themselves) with the increasing complexity of drum beats and fills they're able to tackle. They especially appreciate being able to choose their favorite songs to play. Though our 3 boys differ in their personalities, musical tastes, and learning styles, JJ genuinely connects with each one of them individually & keeps them motivated and rising to the next challenge. JJ is patient, encouraging, and organized with her lessons, and the boys always have a clear plan of what to practice for the coming week. A huge highlight has been the opportunity to play in JJ's annual Evening of Drummers. We're always blown away by the student performances and seeing how far everyone has progressed over the past year.
