a great spot to spend the day hiking about — with about 20 miles of interconnected trails, it is easy to spend a day here exploring and communing in nature. make sure to pick up a map as trails are only marked as they intersect each other and there is no real guidance to reach the visitor center once on trails — it’s not overly confusing but if you’re bad with a map it may provide issue. trails are not paved but just mowed earth, so it may often be muddy. we hiked there today and if it weren’t so cold it would have been awful muddy. we just kept going on trails as we intersected with them and took ones that led us back to the visitor center when we got tired. minimal elevation gain for the most part, so suitable for all who do not have mobility issues. several trails have interpretative signage about trees which was cool, and there are ponds as well as goose creek to see. you’re at the foot of the mountains too so there are some pretty views to be had near the visitor center. no entrance fee makes it a perfect spot to enjoy a day and get your steps in.

Great place for nature walks. The trails are well maintained, not too muddy, and full of wildflowers (at least in September). We did a little fishing, caught a blue gill and a catfish. The pond is small and mostly in direct sun, but still nice. And we did the scavenger hunt, provided near the parking lot, which my 3-year-old loved. We will definitely be back here in the future.

Another beautiful fall weekend hike in Loudoun county. Great place to take your toddler and let yourself soak into the preserve which teaches you about not only all common trees that are native to Virginia,but also some exotic ones from China. There are plenty of crisscrossing trails that are all connected! We started behind the building that was in front of the parking lot, got lured to a small pond, decided to keep going beyond to a beautiful getaway at the Goose Creek and finally walked along an amazing trail stretch called Carter-Luck to wind our day. Being a preserve, the paths are well maintained, covered with grass that won't die with all the hikers trampling them and constantly being attempted at being encroached by low lying vegetation amidst the tall cedars, oaks and walnuts that make this a fall foliage wonderland. Now, if you have read this far, don't forget to stay back and soak in a perfect sunset from the parking lot!

Great trail system for going on a walk with the family. Lots of short trail branches around the property that more or less loop back into the central starting point. Be mindful that several areas are low-lying, especially near goose creek, so if there has been rain, wear tall boots and be prepared to do some puddle jumping.

We picked up a winter bingo game from the visitor's center and had a blast exploring the trails and looking for the bingo items.
