Great place to spend the day. Take a 5 minute ferry ride to the island but you have to make reservations and buy tickets first online. Ferries leave from lower Manhattan and Red Hook Brooklyn. You can also reserve a barbecue pit if you like. There are many different concession stands including wood oven pizza. There are also a few different bike rental companies here or bring your own. The hills are a great place for a hike with great views of Manhattan, and Jersey City for pics. There something for everyone there including some high end luxury camping so make a day of it or stay over night it's your choice.

A GREAT RIDE, the ferry carries tourists and others to a place maintained for nearly two centuries as a coastal defense. It has old military buildings, good eateries and striking views of Manhattan.
Very efficient. Everyone is wearing masks, but not enough social distancing at peak times. People are not spaced six feet apart on the main deck.
IT'S SUCH A SHAME THAT WHILE WALKING IN THE LINE TO GO ON THE BOAT I FELL DOWN AND RIP MY JEANS WITH BRUISES MY KNEES AND HANDS. MY KNEES IS SWOLLEN AND IN PAIN RIGHT NOW I CAN'T WALK MUCH OR SLEEP BECAUSE OF THE PAIN. THE REASON I FELL IS BECAUSE THERE WERE HOSE PIPES ON THE GROUND WHERE PEOPLE HAVE TO LINE UP AND WALK AS I DIDN'T SEE IT. I FELT EMBARRASSED WHEN I FELL HARD ON THE GROUND. WHEN I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR OR MANAGER NO ONES KNOWS WHERE IS THE MANAGER AS I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE HOSE ARE AT A DANGEROUS PLACE AND IT NEED TO BE MOVE BUT THE STAFF CONTINUED TO IGNORED ME. THEY SHOW NO COMPASSION AND NEVER ASKED IF I AM OKAY. THEY TREATED AS IF I AM A LIER. SHAME ON THE STAFFS
Nice place to spend day with your family. The even have a StarBucks! Lol. Lots to do and see or just chill out. Bikes, zip line, overnight camping. Great spot. Ferry access only.
