As an adult new to the drumming world, I was nervous to begin this new venture. Stephen immediately fostered a comfortable environment and I found the confidence I needed from the start. Stephen's methodology of teaching is unique and easy to follow. I would recommend Phoenix Drum School without hesitation.

We've been studying with Stephen for over a year now- he serves both my children, boys C and T , ages 5 1/2 and 8 1/2. He began with C at age 4 years, and we were desperate to find a musician who could both serve a developing youngster with some sensory sensitivities but also a clear propensity towards musical aptitude. His multisensory approach towards music education and kind attitude, where he encourages kids to \laugh when we make a mistake! Ha ha!\ is so beneficial to their self-concept. He also utilizes elements of the Seguin Three-Period lesson, a highly researched methodology of presenting material that yields higher knowledge and accommodation with reliability (as a Montessori educator, I am very familiar with Seguin and can personally attest to this method's benefits!). Since then, Stephen has both nurtured our son's personal and sensory awareness while ripening his natural musical skill- this 5 year old boy is proficient at both set AND hand drums! It became such a draw that my now 8 1/2 year old son has joined the ranks, receiving weekly lessons in African percussive technique. For C, the lessons are about developing his musicianship, which is remarkable! (see pictures and hopefully video attached). For T, the lessons are about developing his self esteem and nurturance- they ARE therapy for him, in so many ways! Stephen is an invaluable member of our family now, not just an revered tutor and musician (which he will ALWAYS be). I cannot imagine our little family community without the talents and loving tutelage of this nose to the grindstone musician. He is an incredible example for ALL, not to mention a highly knowledgable and artistically proficient person who has seen it and heard it ALL. He is a MASTER of masters and I adore him for the gifts he's given our family!!! Best, Adrienne
