Dozens of cats found living amidst squalor in a Tennessee senior living facility were rounded up and euthanized. According to WSMV News, the cats were found in a resident’s room at the Red Cedar Glen facility, and though two rescue agencies jumped into action to help remove and rehome the cats, they were killed instead. The rescue groups who were hoping to save the cats were kept away from the facility immediately after the cats were discovered, and the facility told them that the felines had been “rescued.” The organizations learned later that all of the cats were put down. Sumner County Animal Control told the news agency that the cats were infested with fleas and bed bugs, and euthanasia was recommended by a veterinarian. Donna Russell, founder of Feline Friends of Sumner County, commented on the deadly decision, stating: We know there are times when we do have to euthanize animals. This wasn’t one of those times,” Russell said. “The video shows they were friendly. They were standing there waiting to be greeted.” The local authorities are investigating the situation. The senior living facility has stated that a family member living in the room had kept staff away – the cat situation was not discovered until a pest control inspection was ordered.

I visit all of the Senior Care Centers in Hendersonville on a regular basis. This one beats them all so this was our choice for my father-in-law. He loves it! The staff is second to none and that includes the hairdresser who is so nice! The food is great. I have personally eaten 10 or more meals there including 2 Thanksgivings. Every staff member becomes like family! Do check this out if you or a family member needs Senior care. Warm, caring atmosphere from all!
