Compared to Pier 39, there is no much beauty or fun at Pier 33. With basic café where you can have a quick food-fix, there is not that much to do – except hop on ferry to Alcatraz. The line is well organized, did not have any issues but could get busy so make sure you are on time.
If your on the boats after 2:30 pm you don’t have much time to explore the island which is rip off in my opinion because you paid full price but only to get to see the prison tour if you don’t want to catch the last boat at 6:30 pm. I would personally expend the schedule from June to September to include a 7:00 pm and 7:30 pm sailing back to San Francisco to gave people more time to explore around the island, if they cannot, I would gave some money back to the customer to make for the lost of exploring the island after you do the prison tour.
Alcatraz ferries depart here. The lines are very orderly and the ferries depart almost exactly on time.
