Encountered an extremely troublesome experience following a recent hospital admission of a dear family friend who has resided in Memory Care at Senior Commons for many years now. Upon arrival at the hospital, nurses and subsequently loved ones alike were appalled at the conditions endured by a completely vulnerable individual trusted in the hands of Senior Commons. “Buckets” were placed under the wheelchair of her to collect the dripping urine from her completely saturated chair pad that was providing little relief whatsoever underneath an equally soiled pair of depends that were tightly pulled against her skin it caused noticeable redness as hospital staff awaited a bed to accommodate her appropriately. We were told that several residents from Senior Commons have arrived with similar unacceptable conditions of daily living. With limited visitation, it has been impossible to keep a watchful eye on her like we would have regularly if not for the pandemic; so my warning to those with loved ones residing in long term care and at Senior Commons at Powder Mill is to do whatever it takes, and whatever you need to in order to follow up on the care being provided by to those that you love before you have regrets after finding them in similar intolerable living conditions.

My father was in the memory care unit for a few months. One evening he tripped and fell hitting his head and knocking himself unconcious. The attendants literally drug him to his bed for the night. The next morning he wasn't responsive so they called 911. He died a few days later. A few days after the incident with my father, we received a call from another worker there saying this wasn't the first time something like this happened. The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services investigated and revoked their license (currently under appeal from what I understand) for gross incompetence, negligence, and misconduct.

Worst place ever for independent living. Please beware when getting a place there you understand everything. They miss lead us and the there apartment flood and they treated her stuff like junk, took them two months to get fixed. My Relative had to stay with us. They offered her No compensation what’s so ever...... They are full of bull. Ask a lot of questions like how come there staff turn over is very high. Always new folks. Why has so many independent apartments came available, most moves..........Good Luck Home you find a caring place for your family member. I could go on and on and on with bad experiences there, but I think you get the picture.

My parent has been living at SC Memory Care for almost 3 years. We have seen many changes and issues, but since Summer 2019, new leadership has arrived and staffing has stabilized. There is a visible commitment to engaging and stimulating residents, and more Staff training on the special needs of residents with dementia. I see that the MC staff takes pride in, and ownership of, the well-being of their residents. The Directors have been responsive to my parent’s unique needs, and Fox Therapy has been very effective. I am Hopeful and optimistic that these positive trends will continue. Families must recognize that any elder care situation requires their active involvement and oversight.

Feb.25, 2020 My family and I recently had to make a very difficult decision and place my wife of thirty three years in a care facility due to progressing complications with dementia. After several phone calls and internet searches we came across, Senior Commons at Powder Mill. After we toured the facility and asked several questions of staff members we chose Senior Commons. The first couple of months were very hard for my wife and family. You are making a decision to trust that you family member will be in good hands for all their needs. After being a resident at Senior Commons \Memory Care\ for five months now, I am at peace with the care my wife is receiving. The new director of the\ Memory Care Unit\ is professional and has made positive changes to improve the quality of life style for the residents and staff members. The entire facility is well maintained and the staff members are professional and pleasant.
